# 12.6 Edit, Retry and Delete Instagram Posts

All three actions are on each post's card in **Social Media → Posts**.

**Edit a post that is not live yet** (a draft, a scheduled post, or a post that failed):

1. Click **Edit** on the post's card (or **Edit post** on the post page).
2. The **Publishing Wizard** opens on step 4 with the post's account, format, media, caption and schedule filled in. Only Instagram can be selected while you edit; to publish the same content elsewhere, create a new post.
3. Change what you need. The caption shows the full published text, including hashtags and the call to action.
4. In step 5, click **Save Changes** to keep the scheduled time, or clear the date and click **Save and Publish Now**.

If saving fails, the wizard stays open with your changes and shows the reason. Editing a scheduled post also moves its entry in the [Scheduler](/docs/scheduler/).

A published post cannot be edited — that would publish a second copy. A post that is in the publishing queue, or whose video Instagram is still processing, cannot be edited until it is live.

**Retry a failed post:**

1. On a failed post's card, click the **Failed** badge to read why it failed.
2. Click **Try again**. The post goes back into the publishing queue unchanged.

To change the post before retrying, click **Edit** instead and publish it from the wizard.

**Delete a post:**

1. Click the delete button on the post's card.
2. For a post that is not live, click **Delete** — it is removed from Application.
3. For a published post, choose **Delete from the CRM only** (it stays on Instagram) or **Delete here and on Instagram**. If Instagram refuses, nothing is deleted and the reason is shown.

## Errors, Messages, and Common Fixes

| Issue | Cause | Fix |
| --- | --- | --- |
| Instagram menu not visible | Meta not connected or instagram_basic permission not granted | Connect Meta and grant Instagram permissions |
| Cannot see messages | `CanUseInstagramMessaging` permission not enabled | Ask CompanyAdmin to enable Instagram Messaging permission |
| Cannot publish posts | `CanManageInstagramPosts` permission not enabled | Ask CompanyAdmin to enable Instagram Posts permission |
| The overview shows **Instagram statistics aren't available to you** | Your plan doesn't include them | CompanyAdmin: click **See plans**. TenantUser: ask your company administrator |
| `This post can't be edited. It may have been deleted, or it is already published.` | The post is live, in the publishing queue, still processing on Instagram, or was deleted | Wait until it is live, or create a new post |
| `You are editing one Instagram post, so only Instagram can be selected.` | Another platform was selected while editing | Keep only Instagram selected, or create a new post for the other platforms |
| **Edit** button is missing on a post | The post is published, or you do not have publishing access | Create a new post, or ask CompanyAdmin for publishing access |
| Delete from Instagram fails | Instagram refused to remove the post | Remove it in the Instagram app, then choose **Delete from the CRM only** |

## If Instagram features stop working

1. Check Meta connection status in [8. Meta Platform Connection](/docs/meta-platform-connection/).
2. Confirm the Instagram account is still linked to the correct Meta Business Account.
3. Confirm the current user still has the required messaging or publishing permission.
4. Open **Social Media** → **Posts** (a read-only check) first, then retry publishing or messaging.

## What happens if this fails?

- If Meta permissions expire, Instagram menus may disappear or stop loading data.
- If publishing fails, the post is not published and shows **Failed** in **Posts** — read the reason on the card, then **Try again** or **Edit** it.
- If messaging permissions are removed, direct-message access stops immediately for affected users.
