# 11.28 Edit a Workflow

1. On the **Workflow List**, click **Edit** (pencil) on the workflow.
2. Change the name, trigger or steps.
3. Turn on **Publish this version now** if the changes should go live, then click **Save Workflow**.

**How versions work:**

- Every save creates a new version (the **Versions** column counts them).
- **Only the published version runs.** If you save with **Publish this version now** off, the previously published version keeps running, including its old trigger.
- Runs that already started finish on the version they started with. New runs use the newly published version.
- If the workflow was stopped automatically ([11.6](/docs/on-exception-and-automatic-stop/)), saving and publishing a fixed version brings it back online.
