# 5.7 Contact Timeline

## What This Feature Does

Every contact's Profile page includes a permanent Timeline panel showing a chronological history of activity for that contact — it's part of the same page as the contact's profile details, not a separate tab.

## What You See

- Entries grouped by day, each showing an icon, a title, an optional description, the time, and who did it — a user's name, or **System** when the platform itself recorded the activity automatically.
- An activity count badge in the panel header.
- If nothing has happened yet: *"No activity recorded yet."*

## What Gets Recorded

- Manual changes: contact created/updated/deleted, access granted/revoked, internal notes (every note you add in [5.10 Contact Notes](/docs/contact-notes/) shows here too, with the sticky-note icon), imports.
- System-recorded events: email sent/opened/clicked/bounced/unsubscribed, WhatsApp sent/delivered/read, inbound and outbound email messages, and channel status changes (for example, an email bouncing or a WhatsApp number becoming invalid) — these are recorded automatically, without any user action, and appear with **System** as the actor.
- Automation-driven changes: when a workflow step (such as Add Tag to Contact, Assign Contact to User, or Update Lead Score) runs for this contact.

## Best Practices

- Use the timeline as your first stop before contacting a customer — it shows what has already happened without checking each module separately.
- If an expected activity is missing, confirm it actually happened in its source module (email, WhatsApp, workflow) before assuming the timeline failed to record it.
