# 11.10 Activity: Delay

**What it does:** pauses the run, then continues with the next step.

**Settings:**

- **Delay mode:** **Delay by duration** (enter a number and choose Minutes, Hours or Days) or **Delay until specific date & time** (**Execute at**, in your browser's local time). A date in the past continues immediately.

**Use it for:** "send a follow-up 2 days later", "wait an hour before reminding".

**Pitfalls:**

- Plain-text WhatsApp messages only reach the contact within 24 hours of their last message ([11.16](/docs/activity-send-whatsapp-message/)). A plain-text reply placed after a long delay will usually fail. After delays, use a WhatsApp template.
- Very short delays (under a few minutes) bring no benefit and make runs harder to follow.
- A Delay with nothing connected after it does nothing: the run simply ends there.
