# 11.12 Activity: Create Lead

Shown in the step panel as **Register New Lead**.

**What it does:** creates a **new** contact and makes it the run's contact. It uses the **Name**, **Email** and **WhatsApp** you enter. Any field left blank is taken from the trigger's customer data. With **Add lead tag automatically** ticked, the contact gets the tag `lead`. If the run already has a contact, the step does nothing.

**Important difference from Add/Upsert Contact:** Create Lead does **not** check for an existing contact with the same email or number, so it can create duplicates. For messages and store events, use **Add/Upsert Contact** and add a **Lead** tag with **Add Tag**. Use Create Lead only when you deliberately want a separate new lead record.

**Fails when:** no name, email or WhatsApp number is available.
